Bio: Photography for me is about sharing, I see something I like a so I take a photo of it so I can share it with others. I must confess that I often don't think much about the rules of composition, I tend to rely on the fact that hopefully if I like what I see someone else will too. I welcome praise and critiscm alike, as I learn by doing, rather than reading any feedback is invaluable. My Photoshop skills are improving but looking at the images some of you achieve I have a very long way to go. I've been struggling for inspiration lately and last night I had to take a customer to Chichester Marina, as soon as I saw this boat in amongst the houseboats on the canal I had to take a picture, I would've liked a better sky but you can't always have what you want. I was struck by the marked contrast of the blue of funnel and the red inside the vent tube compared to the shabbiness of everything else. Hopefully this is the image to get me going again, i couldn't wait to get home and start playing with it. My son Ryan and I had a boys day out in London and I dragged the poor lad around whilst taking pictures after we'd been to the London Dungeon. Wthout realising Ryan walked into view for this image to look over the railing, I quite liked the undefined silhouette look it created so I left him in. Unusually for me I knew what i wanted the end result to look like as soon as i spotted this view. Quite often i have little more than a vague idea. As i worked on it the original idea was modified. This was an extremely lucky spot I had actually gone to take some pictures across the road and the over grown nature of the church yard drew me in to have a look. Consecrated by Bishop Gilbert in 1871 it provided seating for 257 worshippers, its final cost was £2640, music was provided by a harmonium. In 1979 the Whyke and Portfield Parishes were amalgamated and in 1980 the decision was taken to make the church redundant. The Church later became home to the Mechanical Music and Dolls Museum which has either moved to pastures new or closed down. Taken by Southsea Castle looking towards Gosport. Norris Castle on the Isle of Wight has all the appearance of a castle but with out the strength. Queen Victoria stayed there in her youth. With my daughter now studying at Norland College in Bath I have the perfect excuse to visit with the bonus of taking some pics whilst i'm there. This is Bath Abbey taken from inside the Roman Baths on a beautiful sunny but freezing cold day at the end of November. I've had my eye on this tree for sometime waiting for the right conditions to lift it out of the ordinary. I couldn't quite get to where i wanted to be as the real magic in the sky was happening further to the right. But as a compromise I quite liked this view. It had been a really overcast afternoon and with the odd shower of light rain but the sky started to clear as the sunset and this is the result. I may have the line of the song wrong, call it artistic licence. This was taken at War on the Watercress Line on a miserable wet Sunday. I liked the original Image but just for fun ran an aging action and I rather like this as well. Info direct from the Watercress Line website. 45379 is one of the successful “Black Five” 4-6-0 mixed traffic locomotives designed by William Stanier. Built by Armstrong Whitworth of Newcastle in July 1937 and first allocated to Crewe, it moved to Rugby in 1948 at nationalisation, back to Crewe in 1956 and on to Bletchley in 1961. Although Black Fives remained in service until the last day of mainline steam forty years ago, 45379 moved to Willesden in 1964 from where it was withdrawn in the summer of 1965 going to Barry scrap yard later that year. In 1974 it was bought for restoration and taken to the Avon Valley Railway, later to The Great Central Railway. It was bought from there by MHRPS coming to Alresford on 1st March 2002. Black Fives occasionally worked as far south as Bournemouth and even ran over the Mid-Hants. This locomotive is large enough for the steep gradients here at the Mid-Hants, but small enough to be economical. 3 shot HDR 2 stops apart Taken at Birdham Pool near Chichester. The Heron had originally perched on a fence but having taken some shots of him there I tried to get too close and he flew to this new perch to set up an even better shot. Black Squirrel seen on Ward Island Toronto. As I didn't know there was such a thing as a black squirrel this little fellow came as something of a surprise. My research since has shown that there's a small population in the Hertfordshire area of Britain as well.  There are times when I hate the fact that my job keeps me out into the early hours of the morning. But Sunday morning as the Sun rose over the village of Oving near Chicheter I was reminded it's not always a bad thing. With my Daughters studies at Norland College in Bath coming to an end and her almost ready to make her way in the Big Wide World as a Probationary Norland Nanny I couldn't resist having one more go and Pulteney Bridge when we went to her Open Day yesterday. Who knows when I'll have the excuse to go there again? Pulteney bridge was designed by Robert Adam, whose working drawings are preserved in the Sir John Soane's Museum, and is one of only four bridges in the world with shops across the full span on both sides. It is named after Frances Pulteney, heiress in 1767 of the Bathwick estate across the river from Bath. Bathwick was a simple village in a rural setting, but Frances's husband William could see its potential. He made plans to create a new town, which would become a suburb to the historic city of Bath. First he needed a better river crossing than the existing ferry, hence the bridge. It's been a real struggle to find time to work on my images lately but here's another snap from my holiday. Taken from Toronto Islands, perhaps not the greatest photo i've ever taken but i fell it love with it anyway.
