The River Lea at Amwell, looking north toward Ware. Please expand 6am on Saturday found me stumbling through Amwell Nature Reserve in the pitch black hoping to make some images at sunrise. I was concerned by the descending mist, with good reason as not long after it obscured what had promised to be an astonishingly good start to the day. However, when I got home and uploaded the images, I realised the long exposure had pulled in the merest hint of colour on the horizon, colour that my eyes just hadn't been able to discern in the gloom. I'm humbled to have this chosen as POTW from so many other incredible images. Thank you to everyone for their support and comments. Spotted this guy going for an evening bath, and thought it made a nice frame. Sorry for my lack of comments this week, work is busy again, will get round to you soon. In the meantime have a great weekend all. Another from 70 Acres Lake, during which I was waist deep in the branches of this fallen tree, and ankle deep in the mud from the small flood plain created by the River Lea. Please expand   The devil makes work for idle hands right enough. Spent time just mucking about with this one while my wife was doing some course work and ended up here.   Sigurfari is the largest object in the Akranes museum's collection. The cutter is a 86-tons, twin-masted ship, built in England in 1885 and is the only one of its kind in Iceland. Suffering more than a little from the Icelandic climate, it is now too dangerous to venture inside the vessel. Taken at 70 Acres Lake, just as the rising sun popped above the horizon and before the thickening fog obscured that lovely warm light. I promised colour, but said nothing about warmth. In fact the idea was to convey the utter lack of warmth from the sun. Taken in the China Bar at the top of the Hyatt regency in Beijing. At this time of night, I was suprised I was capable of photography! Back to south Hertfordshire for this one, a wintery image of Lea Valley park. Today's offering is a 4-image ventorama in HDR of the gatehouse at Catherbuty Catherdral. An image from the tiny hamlet of Ayot Green near where I live. I've long thought there was an image here and finally tried to track it down with some lovely low evening light. This is a handheld 11 exposure portrait panorama of Þingvellir, one of my favourite places on the planet. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is the location of the world's oldest parliament, established in 930AD, is the site of Þingvallavatn, the largest natural lake in Iceland and is an epic representation of geology in action. Taken on the top of the North American tectonic plate, this is the view across the mid-Atlantic ridge towards the European plate on the other side. It is a truly awe-inspiring view. On the left is the mountain Ármannsfell, with the snow-covered Skjaldbreiður behind (from whose name the term shield volcano is derived, as it is a defining example of one) and Hrafnabjörg to the right. On the right side is the Þingvallavtn itself , with the river Öxará flowing into it. The site of the Lögberg (Law Rock), the focal point of the Alþingi (Assembly), is behind me. Please expand for the majesty of this location. From north Norfolk...slowly going through the images and looking for some gems. Liked this one. There's a nice big poppy field near my home. Apparently. Never found it yet though...taken at the side of a field instead. The search continues. The first of a couple of images I sent in for the Weekend Project. We were all beaten to it by Doros...well done my friend. My little girl's violin lessons finally used for somehting other than scaring small animals. The other submission for the weekend project, my little girl's violin. Back again. Sorry for my lack of presence, but again been very busy with other things. This is the railway viaduct near my home, oft photographed, but hopefully looking a little different here. A return to Iceland for this one. The Icelandic natural landscape is stunning, and is a landscape photographer's ideal playground. I did want to do something a little different though, and this scape is almost documentary in nature. I wanted to evoke the sense of decline in the Icelandic fishing industry. Taken on the steps of the saltfish museum in this small southern town not far from the world famous Blue Lagoon. Please expand This one caught my eye because of the reflections Please expand Out for a short jaunt on Saturday, the first in ages. Went to a tiny village called Bayford. I thought it was quite a nice wee church, even if the winter light was less than flattering
