Thank you Ryan, I appreciate your comment. I promise to spend more time viewing your images in detail. I took a quick glance this evening and I agree, you've some great images especially for such a novice. Must be of the prodigy sort..... Again, thank you for having a look at my shot. Charles -

Chris, it was just as you described.... funny how it turned out. I have folk who walk up to me and say, "hey aren't you the guy who took the lightning picture?" Kinda funny. But I live in a small town and rural area. I was fortunate to snap a lightning picture about a month later that made the local paper as well. I got a few lighting images this summer but I didn't post them. Not as dramatic as this shot, but they were fun to capture too. Thank you for looking Chris. -

i am not sure how you cptured this but i would truely love to know. i can feel the cold air rush prior to this magical moment and the eureka feeling as you jumped up and down on finding out your endeavours -

Thank you kindly for taking a look at my image. I was told early on it may be that once in a lifetime shot... and I'm beginning to believe it based on the favorable comments. Thank you for your time. Best regards, Charles -
Charles Dunlevy
Thank you for looking. This image has been quite a turnaround for me. The overwhelming comments have inspired me to take my work to the next level, personally of course. I'm not much for the commercial aspects of photography and I rely for the most part on the currency of shared experiences of learning and encouragement. Thank you kindly for your comments. Very Best, Charles -
Christian Hunt
Fantastic Photo Charles! how exciting to see you had captured so well, much deserving of the POTW accolade. C -

Thank you all for your comments... you have all been very encouraging and supportive and it goes without saying that comraderie like this from peers is truly what we thrive in as amateur photographers. This site is special because of each of us, as members of the site, we make it unique and truly our own. Well, none of us really like anything less than 5*'s but really not all of our photographs are worthy of that rating.. but we support and encourage each other to get those stars, to be better than we were the last image we captured or tailored in post-processing, and even have our photo called POTW. I want to thank each and every one of you who have commented and rated my images for that encouragement and promise to return that encouragement back to you. WE are Digital Photographer, and WE are awesome. -

Barney Vost
Incredible Charles! You're too modest. Well worthy of the PotW. Great work. Send some of that lightening over my way would you?! 5* -

Mike, no I didn't have my rubber boots on... I was tucked safely inside my Sun room when I snapped this one. Great Pun! Shocking, yes, no one was more shocked than I to see how the shot turned out the next day... Peter, thank you for the great comments.. and Sean you've already given me a 5 but thanks for adding another very gracious comment. Best to you all... I've some catchup work to do.. briefly looked at your postings... wife is at me to hit the hay for tonight... from what I saw at a glance look for 5's soon! Best regards, Charles. -
peter hopson
well done charles a worthy potw top shot for a top slot .pete.ps can't give you another 5* but will after see your new bolt perhaps you will have potw with that one as well then lightning will have struck in the same place twice !!!! -
Charles Dunlevy
Thank you James and David... Quite a stir here in our rural area.. Our local paper is running a short on this image making POTW! On Friday I captured another bolt on the Mattaponi River! They say lightning never strikes the same place twice, but that doesn't mean you can't capture it in different places twice! Best regards, Charles -
Charles Dunlevy
Thank you Dave, so good to see you are back with DP. I have missed your work, so many excellent photographers on this site. -
Charles Dunlevy
Thank you Sean, great shot of the child.. don't apologize for being "focused" (no pun intended) on children photo's... they are the ones that will bring tears to your eyes when you are an old man..... Regards, Charles -
Charles Dunlevy
Thank you kindly, yes Mother Nature was very kind to me, as have all the respondents... my best regards, Charles -
John Pattison
Charles, this is a wonderful shot and you were very lucky to be in the right place at the right time. Well done sir, 5+. regards, John -
Charles Dunlevy
Thank you James and Amanda. Just back from both of your sites: very nice work. I appreciate your comments. Charles -
Charles Dunlevy
Thank you Mike and Pete! I agree Mike; the right place at the right time... the 30 second exposures meant 30 second windows of opportunity. The "Creator" let go the thunderbolts; I merely cable released a few exposures.... -
Mike Scott
The brilliance of this shot for me is the composition, lightening strikes are fast , spontaneous and random and to capture this composition is amazing as there is no advanced warning for you to prepare for an image like this 5* rgds Mike -

Thanks Kat; I will make the changes in my original.... Sorry to remind you of the fires. We are having a terrible time with the Great Dismal Swamp and NC fires... smokey days here and we are 100 miles from the blaze.... take care, Charles -
Katja Zuske
Very, very cool, Charles. 5* I love thunderstorms and you captured their force. Unfortunately, a dry thunderstorm has ignited 1000 fires here in California a couple weeks ago so my enthusiasm is a bit dampened at the moment... If you have the time one of these days, maybe remove that one bit of grass on the right in the foreground and rotate the pic about 1 degree CCW. -
Charles Dunlevy
Excuse me, I've not been able to respond most of this week but I want to thank you for the comments, and of course the stars! Thamer, it is a blessing to live in such a pristine place, so quiet, and you can be sure I've taken hundreds of snaps of that cove... A footnote: the image was posted front page on our local newspaper, we've had a series of strong T-Storms here recently. It's great to share our photo's and experiences in these gallery's..... Charles -
kate gemmell
lucky bugger ! great shot i'd have been so excited abut the lightening i wouldn't have thought to go for a long exposure. isn't it great when a shot turns out so well. 5 * rgds kate -

Stephen Watson
Nice capyure Charles. See Global Warming has struck in your part of the world. Regards. Stephen -

Thank you Esther and Reg, I appreciate your comments but long exposures and natural light make for interesing photo's all on their own. Regards, Charles -
Esther Seijmonsbergen
