This was a fairly dramatic billboard (Never Give Up), even in billboard-heavy La Crosse, WI, ca. 2002. Billboards are very much a contentious issue here, in 2012, b/c some people believe they destroy the community's aesthetic looks. However, I photographed this billboard fairly often, while it was up, including snow-covered, in winter. Former BJP Editor Jon Tarrant pointed out, about this particular version (during a warmer time of year), the airplane vapor-trail above the billboard, suggesting the Battle of Britain. JT wrote the Introduction for my son (Matt) and my photobook 'American Eyes' in 2010, which is where his Churchillian billboard comment is included.
