Staithes by Ian Flindt
A foggy afternoon in Staithes, North Yorkshire.
I was thrilled to bits when this image was selected to appear in last year's AA/Sunday Times Landscape Photographer of the Year exhibition at the National Theatre in London. The print was enormous and yet the quality of the image was not impaired as a result. Given that this was taken with a Canon 20D (8 MP) it did make me wonder when I looked at the print whether we really need the sort of high MP resolution that camera manufacturers insist on offering us nowadays.

You images are just fantastic. There's a magical feel to them that just draws you in to look. I love this image with the rope in the foreground and the houses behind. It makes you think why the ropes there. Have they let it and gone home for dinner? -

Beautiful image Ian... But, more importantly... Welcome back. Your images are stunning and the site was poorer from not seeing more. All the best, Derek. -

Another superb image from you Ian! You can have the top of the range camera equipment and lenses but if you dont have the eye, then its not worth much - but you my friend, have bags of talent, cos this is a masterpiece! Cheers Jo -

Fine shot! Megapixels is one thing, good capturing (and after processing) technique is just as important to make sure that a big print wil look ok! regards John -

Many thanks, everyone. Special thanks to you, Dave, for such kind and generous comments. I really appreciate them. Ian -

Great capture Ian the warm tones are nicely muted by the fog but you still have a fantastic amount of detail and the image is super sharp. 5*** image. I have recently read that Sony have a 25MP DSLR - does make you wonder if the MP race will ever stop., John
