Semi Pro

Postby Chris Humphreys on Tue Jun 09, 2009 10:11 am

I'm an architect and have been practicing for around 13 years, in recent times it's a pretty tough business. So a couple of months ago when I was made part time I decided to step up a gear with my photography. I created a website (link below) and have been persuing architectural photography as a main stay. It's tough and slow! Thankfully I'm still in a job as an architect and long may it continue, but who knows, maybe one day photography will pay the bills......

Any feedback on my site would be appreciated.

Cheers

Chris

Nicely laid out site Chris, some good shots too. Good luck with the photography career.
I'm currently working on a new website, but I've got some images on flickr that you can have a look at. I've also been known to waffle a bit on twitter.

Cheers Jamie, not so much of a career at the moment, but everyone has to start somewhere I guess. I don't suppose many pros started off launching straight into it without a main income from something else?!

It's the usual way for those who came to photography later on. For those who studied it at college, the route is often to assist for a while and then go out on their own.

Hi Chris,
If you decide to pursue this as a Pro I'd recommend specilising in 1-2 areas and push these.
Then you need to develop your own unique style (your signature) of shooting that separates you from the crowd.
Good luck.
Simon

Thanks Simon. My specialised area is architectural photography, not doing too badly at the moment. Hopefully you'll see some of my stuff in the journals before too long. As for a style, I've never consciously thought about that. With architectural photography I just try to accurately represent the scene as far as possible, the artistic interpretation is in the composition and looking (waiting) for the right light.

I really like your website. Very nice and clear and easy to get around. Great pictures as well.

Like you I am coming into photography later. I would like to also do what you have done.
