Yorkshire Dales - Where to stay & where to shoot

Postby ravens-eye on Sun Mar 06, 2011 8:33 pm

I’m planning a week long stay in the Yorkshire Dales in July to give my new toy (Sigma 10-20mm) a workout. I plan to rent a Cottage for a small group of us but have no idea where to go. I want to be near one the Limestone footpath areas as I want to get some early morning & dusk shots on these, so need travelling distances to these to be minimal to them.

I live in a boring flat village with very little free time to go and see landscapes like this so I want to see everything, but only have a week to do it in :(

Any ideas from anyone who has stayed there would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi

I normally stay around Hawes in Wensleydale which is pretty much in the centre of things. Usually do B&B though so don't have any info on cottages. The area around Malham is great for limestone pavements and to the north east of Ingleton towards the hills of Whernside and Ingleborough around Raven Scar and Twistleton Scar End. All fairly 'enegetic' walking - there are no flat bits there!! LOL. Also a very good waterfalls walk based at Ingleton. Recommend you get a 1:25000 OS map of your chosen area.
If you wish to view my Flickr site there are some examples of images from the area taken last year

Best wishes and have a great time

Hi Steve. Sorry for the very late delay in responding. Yes it was better then good, it was amazing. I stayed in a cottage in Ingleton at the foot of the falls. The location was very central for the dales and also The Lakes. Can't wait to return.

Results from the trip can be seen here http://www.dphotographer.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=3380

Thanks

I am in the infancy stages of learning to edit pictures, so I know that I will be able to do better in the future.
