Taken for the DP Weekend Project. I had a lovely couple of hours on Father Day with my two sons messing around with water filled balloons. One of them was holding the balloon and the other sticking a pin in it. This one really looks like a surprised monkey from the side.

Did you use some sort of sensor/shutter trigger for this or just kept on snapping as your kids popped the balloons?

If not, maybe you can get something like the Mumford Time Machine which allows different sensors to be attached.

This burst balloon travelled quite a distance. My son Jamie got well and truly soaked in this one. Ah well, it was Fathers Day so he didn't have much choice :-)

My son Luke used some yellow food colouring in the water and the explosion looks like a sun burst. There's some of the pink balloon still hanging on to the water on the left. I used one of my Star Wars images as the backdrop for this. Guess where my son got his name from!!!

Some great ideas and water images posted this weekend everyone.

Well done to flanneryokafka - we love the abstract nature of this photograph and the way you have used the water to incorporate the surrounding scenery from above and below in one shot. Great work.

Please send me your address in a private message and I will post you prize to you!

Thanks so much! What a wonderful first weekend on the site! Really looking forward to more weekend challenges--it's great to be given a specific theme. I'm just back to photography/other artistic pursuits after a few more years of full-time child raising. I now feel like I have a camera constantly glued to my hand. (a super basic fuji finepix) The only editing on this photo was a bit of fill light and shadow, crop, and flipped the image right-side up with Picasa 3. Someday, when my kids grow up, I may have a nice camera and Photoshop! ;)
