Friday 6th May - The Weekend Project

Postby claireg on Fri May 06, 2011 11:36 am

Friday 6th May 2011.

After a couple of crazy long bank holiday weekends we can finally return to normal! For this weekend project we want you to 'play with the shadows.' This can be indoors or outdoors - however you like. Have fun.

Images can be entered here. A winner will be selected on Monday and will win a photography book. Good luck.

This is my entry for the weekend competition. I was off to set up another idea I had when I noticed my shadow on the wall. I sat my tripod up in front of me and then blocked the shadow using my body. I then took the shot using a cable release. The light is from a window behind. The settings were: F11 ISO 200 1.3 secs. I've cropped it slightly and converted to black and white and increased the contrast using curves.

Oh dear..... I had too much fun doing this weeks project. This was a double exposure image.

The first image I got dressed up as some strange demon using stuck on paper fingers horns & ears that I made then posed in front of the flash to create a big evil shadow on the wall.

The second image was using 2 flashes, 1 to fill the main shot and a second to give a false strong light from the laptop to give a sorce light for the evil inner me wall shadow.

I then combined the two in PS

Hope you like it

This is my entry for the "Shadows" Project. I shot with a Nikon D90 ISO 200 24mm f9 1/500. It is one of my favorite late afternoon photos.

Not really an entry but I saw these block letters today and although not that interesting I had to make some Digital Photographer related shadows to celebrate the great new website. When I got them home though I just couldn't really get the best out of them. But here they are anyway.

Great work man, congratz.

I was too busy to enter this weekend, preparing my suitcases and all, not to mention I was on a mobile device to check my emails and surf the web. internet is fully back again today but next weekend I won't enter the project, don't want to take the cameras out of the bags once they're packed.

Ahhh thanks guys. I really had alot of fun with the project this weekend. I'm surprised there were not more entries though, was a very interesting subject??

Wondered why you were a little quiet Aung, but glad to hear your high speed connection is fully restored.
Unlike you I am terrible when going away, I always pack the night before and then it's a mad rush.....
I know your not off just yet but enjoy your trip and look forward to seeing your photos on your return.

Thanks again Claire, looking forward to another good read, the books are really interesting & helpful. Also just wanted to say that I hope Dawn & Paul's entries were also considered, I know they had a few problems adding them to this thread so not sure if they were missed or not?

Have a great week all, see you at the weekend.

P.S If anyone is reading this and they have not participated in the weekend project yet, start taking part!!!! I worked 12hr night shifts this weekend and still found time. It's great for trying new techniques and seeing things differently & unlike the monthly challenge, it's in my opinion, faster paced and more fun.
