Canon BG-EN2 battery grip broken - can't get it off...

Postby nigelivy on Wed Nov 24, 2010 6:38 pm

Hi Everyone

I have a BG-EN2 grip on my 20D that has broken. The thumb-wheel was very hard when I tried to get it off, and it seems that the thumb-wheel has broken off the bolt because I had to use such force to try and undo the bolt. It is now just turning, doing nothing.

Has anyone experienced this? Does anyone know how I can get the grip off? I don't care whether I have to cut the grip open to remove it, just looking for the best way to get it off the camera.

Thanks for any help,

Nigel

Hi, my advise is talk to the service center or someone who may be able to help you get it off without doing much damage.

After much researching online, it turns out that the only way was to dismantle the battery grip, which is what I did.

No damage to the camera, it's absolutely fine. I was very careful in the way that I dismantled the battery grip. Having done this now and seen the mechanics of the battery grip, I don't believe there was any other way to get it off.

If that's the end result of you being careful I'd hate to see what you'd do if you wanted to wreck something. :D

When you said 'dismantled' I assumed it would end up in a state where reassembly might be an option. Maybe not.
