Good Tall Carbon Tripod??

Postby nigelivy on Wed Nov 10, 2010 9:36 am

Hello everyone

I'm in the market for a good tall (meaning that I don't have to squat when I take a photo) carbon/lightweight tripod. At the moment I've got an aluminium Manfrotto Model #055.
I love my Manfrotto, but it is too heavy travel with. Can anyone recommend a carbon lightweight tripod that is about 150-160cm without extended the center?

Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Nigel

Good CF tripods are usually expensive, but look into Benro and Induro, they have nice lightweight short (when folded) tripods.

Check out the Gitzo Systematic Tripod range - they're pretty pricey, but they are arguably the strongest tripods out there.

This particular model offers a massive height of up to 260cm!

Here are 2 good ones from Benro:

http://www.benrousa.com/products/details.asp?ID=401 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Benro-C-1691-M8-B ... 3a5b61ab41)

http://www.benrousa.com/products/details.asp?ID=200 (http://www.amazon.com/BENRO-TRCB169-Tra ... B0027VSQ74)

I saw one of the above models in a local store, can't recall the specific model number but it was built solid and seemed sturdy. Planning to get it later, I have a Manfrotto 190CX Pro4 which is also light and small but the Benro is smaller and more compact when folded perfect for traveling light or use as second support when I have my 190CX with me.

Also saw a Gitzo at the store which was one of their lightest and smallest models but compared to the Benro it was a tad longer and heavier. The Gitzo was also twice the price where I live.
