Sony NEX-5 and NEX-3. Any thoughts?

Postby claireg on Mon May 17, 2010 4:13 pm

What are people's opinions of the new Sony Hybrids? Do you think they will be as successful as the Olympus Pen series? Or Panasonic G series? The bodies are very compact in size which may be a problem with the larger sized lenses. What do you think? voice your opinion and you may see yourself in the next issue of DP!

Excellent little cameras - like the panorama function using a sequence of shots instead of a low res video. Also good that they are compatible with other Alpha lenses via an adaptor (despite the size of the body compared to the lens that would be attached). What would be useful is a 0.66x converter so that full frame lenses could be adapted to fill the APSC sensor.

With a bit of luck I may actually get to have a play with one next week!

I think it's great Sony has entered the hybrid zone; a bit of competition is healthy and can only raise the bar (hopefully). Rosie's test shots with the NEX- 5 look good though: http://news.dphotographer.co.uk/news/so ... est-shots/ The HDR mode really works!

I really love this camera - it takes a little while to get used to using the menu to alter your settings, but once you have this mastered, it's a real delight to use.
Picture quality is great and I love the fact it fits in your pocket with the pancake lens on.
Ideal for travel. Some people are not keen on the design, but I quite like that it's different from everything else. It's had some firmware upgrades too now, so you can take 3D panoramas too.
