Canon Press Conference

Postby JamieWillmott on Tue Aug 18, 2009 5:48 pm

Rumours of a press conference tomorrow for some P&S cameras. G11 with a CMOS sensor anyone?

Would be nice to see the 60D, but that might not be until september. Canon have organised a pro camera/video/printing showcase for October so I would expect to see a new 1 series SLR before then.

I'm just waiting on Canon or Nikon to produce a body with the specs I want over the next few months.

Full frame sensor
16MP or above
weather sealed body
decent fps
good AF.

5D2 is the closest so far, just wish the AF was like the Nikons.
D700 is a great camera, just not enough resolution.

Can we have a 5D700 Mk2 please ;)

That's why canon put 2 digic processors in the 1D bodies (not 1Ds) to keep the frame rate up for the sports/photojournalist crowd.

Jamie was right - G11 - as well as some Ixus and PowerShot models. We'll post the news on the news blog in a mo :)

Typical, they bring out an IXUS 120 the week after I get an IXUS 100! Still, it's the other half's camera and I don't suppose she's too bothered.

A shame the G11 isn't CMOS, will have to see what it's like.

Roll on september for the DSLR announcements!

Not long to wait now Jamie - although to refer to your earlier comment, I personally don't see anything 'wrong' with the D700's resolution! It's an awesome camera! :D I'll dig out some test shots if you want to scrutinise, but I get the impression you're keen to stick with Canon anyway...?

The D700 is indeed a very good camera. 12MP is fine for most uses, but I'd prefer a bit more resolution for large wall prints.

I'd prefer to stick to canon as it is what I am familiar with and I like their range of lenses. I've been tempted to the nikon camp on more than one occasion (the D700 and the SB900 being two reasons) but I wasn't keen on the grip on the D700, it felt a bit narrow. I love the build of the camera but I just didn't like the grip.

I don't have a massive investment in canon gear so a switch would not be such a problem should something outstanding come along from nikon. I have a set of specs in mind that I would like in a camera body, the 5D2 is currently the nearest fit with the D700 in second place.
