Wash Day

This photo was taken on a walk around Alexandra in Johannesburg. It is a poverty stricken township and most of those of employable age were sitting around doing not much. The people are incredibly friendly and Everybody wants you to take a snap of them to the point that you begin to pretend to shoot. This lady was somewhat different - she was busy and she was camera-shy not wanting to be captured facially, perhaps ashamed of her circumstances. As one of the few "industrious" people I saw that day she was clearly a very "house" proud mother and for me the shot captures the bond between mother and daughter.
Canon 5Dmk2; 95mm,1/500s, f4.0, ISO200.

Beautiful rich tones in this shot and I love the frozen water splashes and droplets.
The composition feels just a touch out - I would prefer to see more of the child's face and her experssion. And maybe go wider to include the bucket on the right.
Alternatively a tighter crop to drop out some of the wall and the puddle will give the image more impact.

Thanks Rosie. Bucket didn't make it but the crop did - greater impact. Thanks!

I love the tones of this shot, and the strong vignette works really well with this subject.

It would be good to see a little more of the daughters face, but this is perhaps something you can't really control. Besides that i think it's absolutely excellent.
