My name is Nicola Selby and I am a specialist dance photographer. My interest in this area grew from my passion for dance. I am a trained dancer but my carear was cut short by a serious car accident. After a few years of trying other things I realised I had to go back to dance one way or another and decided to combine it with my passion for photography. Since doing so things have gone amazingly. My most recent work has included:
Produced the images for Harlequin Floor's (world leading manufaturer or dance floors) latest worldwide product launch and advertising campaign.
Currently the front cover and main article of Bowens Litebook magazine (if you want to know more about me its a good place to start lol)
Filmed by Channel 4 for a documentary on dance
I also photograph dancers for their portfolios and run workshops and courses on dance photography and studio photography.
As a result of my recent success my husband and I have set up our own 1080 square foot studio, Velocity Studio, in Lancashire. The studio has a very large infinity wall (5 meters wide, 3.5 meters high and a floor depth of 4 meters) and we even have a sprung dance floor. As far as we know we are the only photography studio in the UK dedicated to dance photography with a floor like this.
Its amazing and very humbling to be recoginised in something I am hugely passionate about so I feel very lucky. I know I have a long way to go still but its been an amazing start to the journey.
