New here and to photography

Postby MrP775 on Sun May 20, 2012 9:39 pm

Hi all.

Just registered so thought i'd introduce myself. I've just bought a second hand Canon 350D SLR from my father in law, and i'm having a whale of a time. Apart from around 600 photos in France on holiday i'm also playing around with it at home. Taking some great photos of my kids and just what seems like random stuff, then you look at the shots after and they are amazing. It's funny how its changed the way i'm looking at things, then thinking that'd make a great shot.

I do need some advice but i'll post for some as i go along, anyone have any tips to be going along with? I have two lenses with the camera, an 18-55mm and a 90-300mm which i hope is going to be great for trips to Brands Hatch of which i have a few planned.

Thanks for reading anyway. Speak to you all soon.

Welcome Mr P.

What sort of tips are you after?

Not heard of a 90-300mm lens, i assume it's quite an old, possibly film, lens?

Have a read up of a few tips and tricks on how to photography motorsport. It's not all that hard technically, but you'll need to get some practice in to get the best shots. You'll want nice motion in the shots but with the car(?) in focus, so read up on what sort of shutter speeds you'll need and start perfecting your panning technique.

Could well be a few years old, i have bought the kit from my father in law. I have two lenses, a canon 90-300mm ef lense and a canon 18-55mm efs lense. I am using UV filters on both, not sure how much difference they make but they were already on there. Taken a whole load of various photos, but havent messed around with much of the manual stuff yet.

Thanks for the reply.
