i need a camera but which one

ok i don't want to spend more than £350 maybe £400 i will be mainly useing it for action shoots (bmx) but would also like to use it for landscaps, portaits and art shoots i'm a bigginer to photogrophy.

I can't tell you what to buy, as it's all down to personal preference at the end of the day! You've narrowed it down to two cameras that will deliver great images, but the main difference is obviously the fact that one is a 'bridge' camera, and the other is a DSLR.

A bridge camera is great for people who want similar functionality to a DSLR, but don't want to carry around extra lenses and accessories, and the S9600 is a great choice (if you check out our buyer's guide in our latest issue, you'll see it scored a very respectable 88% in our review).

The D40 however, is an excellent camera that offers more features and more versatile handling, as well as the option of building up a collection of lenses as your skills improve. An entry-level DSLR like this one is a great choice for someone looking to improve their skills in their future - once you've 'outgrown' it, you can keep collection of lenses and upgrade the body.

My final piece of advice is to make sure you 'try before you buy'. Even if you're buying online, you can still pay a visit to your local camera shop and ask to try out the cameras.

I read these reviews, then bought it thinking maybe it was dodgy, but the e-bay price was real, the camera was in fact new and god damn i'm so happy with the camera that i've reccommended it to about 4 people now. I fully endorse it to be a brilliant camera. But more than that, its a brilliant digital slr with 2 lenses and all inside your budget.

I concur! The E-500 did very well in our group test in issue 50 - it's got some great features, performs very well in most situations and offers very good value for money. Certainly worth considering if you like the way it operates / feels in the hand - give it a go!

Well, it is advisable for you to purchase a good action camera that sell in reasonable prices and I suggest you a brand like Action shot cam.

I will suggest u the Nikon D3100, which is sells for only $477 with lens. It is well know for more controls and options that let those few people who really know how to use all the controls get to them faster.

Before you make the plunge, read some reviews and take suggestions from the forum. Don't aim too low when choosing a camera. I've never heard anyone complaining that the camera they bought is too good.

Don't rule out used and refurbished cameras from dealers and manufacturers.
