Tamron VS Tokina ????

Postby hoakin1981 on Wed Aug 11, 2010 7:07 pm

Hi to all, would like your opinions on my dilemma. I need a wide angle lens for my Nikon D5000. After roaming through the web for reviews, tests, comparisons etc. i have narrowed down my options to the 2 below rivals. The SIGMA choice is disqualified due to my limited budget.

1. Tamron SP AF 10-24 mm f/3.5-4.5 Di II LD Aspherical (IF) (This i believe is a "new" model)
2. Tokina AT-X 12-24/4.0 PRO DX (This not so "new")

Their price is almost identical, since the D5000 has no built-in AF motor i would have no AF with the Tokina (not sure about the Tamron but i think i would have AF, not planning on keeping the D5000 forever though  ). Need any comments from anyone who owns one of the 2 or has faced a similar problem.

Many thanks in advance!

I have the Tamron and would give 10 / 10. A great lens that offers good value.
