cut out a portrait and create studio background

Postby markmoore on Sat Mar 22, 2008 12:18 pm

Hello,

Just wondering if anyone has any tips on CS3 to be able to cut out a portrait from a really naff background and place the cut out portrait onto a really cool background.

If anyone knows of any links or tips, that would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Mark.

Mark,

There are so many ways to go about this, and the best method often depends on the image itself.

Could you perhaps post the image here, or e-mail it to ma at tandemduo280@comcast.net? I'll be happy to look at it and give you my thoughts.

As Joe says, there are lots of ways depending on the image but most often I find myself using a "reveal all" layer mask. Done that way you can use a soft brush to paint out the background you're trying to get rid of so that you don't get harsh lines. Also if you mess up, which usually happens quite a lot for me, you can just paint back over the mask with a bit of white and try it again.
Ajde Jano!!
