AAAHHHHHHH !!! how do I .........

Postby Steve Hilton on Thu Nov 15, 2007 8:21 pm

I need some help please, i've never posted any of my pics on a forum or web site before so I can't work out how to resize my originals. i want to put some images on the main Dp website Gallery. The image i have in mind is ;

w2386 x h3413 Pixels (20.2 x 28.9cm) @ 300pixels/inch

I've tried resizing it to the suggested size (resulting in a pixelated mess) but I'm confused as it states it should be 72 dpi. is this the same as ppi ?, i thought that dpi was for when you are printing?
if someone could do me an idiots guide I would be Very greatfull

It would help to know what type of software you are using.

if you have elements its very easy.

just go to the top menu bar beside file and edit. click on image, then image sze. a box will open. make sure your constarine proportions and resample image boxes are checked.

go to the resolution box and put in 72 (also the box next to it should be set to pixels per inch and NOT centimeters.)

see how you get on with this. but most software should work along the same lines.

worst case scenario is there is somthing wrong with the image. a picture with the dimentions you mentioned should, if a JPEG be about 2-3Mb if not then that may be the problem.

hope this helps

sorry forgot to add. this will change the image dimensions but its not a problem. it should work out ok for the website. i think this may be your problem. if you keep the picture the same size and reduce the resolution only then this is probably why you are getting a pixel problem.

Use crop tool to type width + px, lenght + px and resolution. For example 400px 600px 72
