New camera

Postby 675percy on Sun Nov 23, 2008 5:49 pm

Hi I am new to the site and would like to ask a few questions, I am after a DSLR for general photography and for use at motorcycle race meetings. I have had a look at a few camera's from most of the main players, I have had two good offers I think, from dealers one a Pentax K200D with battery grip + 200mm lens and case, second one a Sony a350 with 18/70, 55/200 Sony len's both for around the £500 mark. I have looked at these as they have the IS system built into the camera body which I think will allow me to buy better third party len's as dedecated len's with IS system are a lot more expensive. As I have no preference to any manufacturer what is your considered opion, also what would be the opions if I were to go down the second hand route what would be the choice there. As this is a christmas prezzi I need to buy right first time, and not buy and find out I could have bought better but for a lack of knowlage of the market. I await your advice and comments.
regards pc

Hi,

Personally I wouldnt go for either.
For that price range i'd go for the Canon 450d which comes with an 18-55 IS lens

The reason why for me is simply cost..

A very good friend of mine has the Sony alpha 350 and alpha 700

Both great cameras but he's always complaining about the price of the additional lenses and parts.. The sony add ons are a significant cost more than the equivalent canon, tamron and sigma parts which all fit on the canon.

If your not planning on buying any extra lenses or accesories then either will do really just depends on how you feel when you hold them.

go to the shop and have a quck play with each of them .. whichever one feels the best to you then go for that one.

But if I were you i'd check out the canon 450d at the same time.
