What are you photographic plans for 2012?

Postby Rosie on Tue Nov 29, 2011 10:06 am

I'd love to know what everyone's photography aims are for 2012?

Anyone thinking about signing up to a training course? Perfecting a new technique or trying their hand a new genre? Or even starting a new business? Let us know what you plan to get out of next year... :D

I'd love to say I have more plans for next year but unfortunately I can really see myself slowing down even more next year (moved out recently so money is a little rocky), however If I can I would love to travel to the swiss alps or iceland but meh... a travel photographer that can't afford to travel lol.

Maybe you should sell some of your prints to fund your travels for 2012? : )

Nothing wrong with having plans! Whether we follow them through is a different story!!

I plan to concentrate on portraiture (I said this last year I know!!) but I'm very excited to be
going on a course in January to learn how to pose newborns for portraits (without making them cry!).
We'll be taking a reader with us so look out for details on the website at the end of December!

Anyone else booked up for any courses? Photo holidays?

Well i do plan on buying a new camera, as well as some other new goodies, particularly a flashgun and at least one new lens.

Whether this actually happens is a different matter. :(

WELL! The D3x in the cupboard would be nice.

But realistically, a second hand D90, an SB600 or cheap alternative, and possibly a kit lens replacement such as the Tamron 17-50 f2.8 or a 70-200 from either Sigma or Tamron.

I will get my website finished off so I have a bit of a portfolio to build on, also going to start blogging a bit more and looking at doing a landscape and / or portraiture photography course

Also want to have a go at some timelapse photography

Kit wise, or the dream list i should say, will be something like a 70-200 F2.8 or Sigma 150-500....and cant wait to see what the new Sony A99 (?) looks like if/when it appears

Between now and then i will working on picking six winning numbers

Rosie,
Have you remembered to buy the ticket then?

I too would like to win the lottery then perhaps a D800 might be on the list, though the D700 still demonstrates its qualities so often - I was shooting at ISO 2500 at the weekend at the Rugby 7's and showed some of the shots on my laptop to other photographers who thought we were in the 400 to 800 range!

My plans for next year are to get better at backing up my shots. I always make back-ups of back-ups but I'm not very good at sorting them out into proper folders that mean anything. My other plan is to be more critical of my work and to only keep the shots I really think are good and delete those shots that are less than good. I must have at least 3 hard drives full of shots that will never see the light of day.

I'm also going to print and hang more shots at home. I printed 3 A3 shots the other day and it's great seeing them on the wall rather than the computer screen.

Good luck to all for 2012.

I'm teaching myself web design so hopefully I can make a few websites in 2012 to help fund the travels. If I can't I'll probably just try to keep building up the portfolio little by little, I managed to scrape 100,000 views this year over my first year's 5,000 so I must be doing something right :)
