Suggestions to improve the DP website:

Postby yvonne on Thu Feb 05, 2009 8:04 pm

I've only been on this website for a few weeks, and i really do think it's great. Although, one thing that could do with being changed is the sequence which we view our images. i.e., when anyone views our profile page, containing our individual thumbnail images, you need to click on any thumbnail to view that particular image, in full, which is fine. However, you then have to click back into the thumbnail gallery, in order to click the next thumbnail, to view that image. If the website is ever redesigned slightly, it would be handy if we could click a little forwards/backwards button beneath, or to the side, of the full-size image and view the next one, without having to go back into the thumbnail page. [Although, that option should still exist too]. I tend to view only a small selection of their full-size images, because it's too time consuming to keep going back into the thumbnail page, which is a pity when you come across members who have amazing photo, after amazing photo, and you want to look through them all!

Otherwise, i have to point out that i really do love this site. It's great to view other gallery members amazing images and receive valued feedback on my own.

Yvonne :D

[Edited slightly on 13th April 09, because i realised i waffled WAY too much]. Haha. Oops.

I agree, could really do with next/previous links when viewing galleries.
I'm currently working on a new website, but I've got some images on flickr that you can have a look at. I've also been known to waffle a bit on twitter.

thanks Jamie, good to know someone else agrees with me. It's a trivial issue really, but it would definitely help the website. :)

I agree also.
The other thing (im not sure if this has been said before) iare size limits. It would be great to be able to post in the forum and gallery sizes upto and including 800 pix wide. This is the standard for most other sites.
Dean :)

Yeah a forward and back button would be great to view peoples work almost like clicking thru a slide show with the ability to rate and comment on the photos as they came up
please feel free to view my gallery http://www.dphotographer.co.uk/user/James_C

Like other comments the site really is amazing, a real community of growing artists who all inspire each other and "grow"!

I agree with the backspace issue, and it is so trivial almost not worth mentioning UNLESS like many you look at MANY photos and it does get very frustrating!

The other thing I don't like is the wait time for the new photos to be released:

1) no other sites out there I have been on do this?
2) Because of the growth of members/photos being uploaded, this wait time can have a negetive effect of having TOO many new shots all released together and shots get more easy to miss. (and it compounds the effect when the images only get released 1 time for the day for whatever reason someone didn't do it the second time in the day)

I am sure there is a reason for the hold, but since no other sites do it WHY is it a requirement here?

****surely a legal disclaimer should be enough to cover any legal issues during the upload phase?****

Basically the delay is caused by the fact we have to screen new images for offensive or adult content / check they have the appropriate Adult Rating where applicable, so save our younger users / those who don't wish to view such photos from accidentally viewing them.

A bit of a pain for some perhaps, but that's how it's done at the moment. We do our best to process images as quickly as possible, so apologies for any delays that are encountered from time to time.

Best wishes,

I fully agree, sometimes I just want to go through someone his gallery but constantly going back to the thumbnails and click on the next image takes a long time.

This could be easily solved by adding a next/previous button, no?

Another point I would like to see:

When you do the face off and you want to leave a comment on a photo you have to click on the photo wich brings you to the stats etc..
Isn't it possible to leave a quick comment underneath the face off, this way you don't have to go to the stats page etc and you can just rate/comment the picture quickly.

I've another suggestion! lol. [Powers that be are going to be sick of me... ]

Anyway, what i wanted to say was; when we look at our profile pages and we can see the total number of comments received, it would be really handy if the person who that gallery belongs to, can quickly view the new 'unread comments', under some sort of link. I can generally roughly remember how many comments was in the first row of thumbnails on my gallery, but after that i can't. Sometimes it takes ages to hunt through the pictures to find out which photo someone has left a new comment under.

Again, it's a really trivial issue. Otherwise i still love this site to bits. :)

I think that has been asked for a couple of times now. I'm sure it is in their to-do list. It would be a very nice feature.

Definitely at the top of the list - thanks for your patience guys. We're in the queue to have the website updated and I'm still noting down all of your ideas, so keep them coming!

Hi just picked up this thread. Another non essential but useful facility would be to have the number of views as well as the number of comments and rating displayed under the thumbnails to give some idea of the popularity of an image without having to open it. just a thought
rgds david
Ps strongly agree with the other suggestions and out of interest just how many images do the moderators find that need reclassifying as adult per week.

I'm not sure how helpful the number of views would really be. My understanding from comments on another photo site I use is that spiders etc can very quickly give a very high count through keyword searching.
